Recently, I watched the film Adolescence—a powerful and emotional story that captures the complexity of coming of age in the digital era. While this film is not intended for younger children, I believe it’s an incredibly valuable watch for parents of upper elementary and middle school students, and even more so for those raising teenagers.
Adolescence explores themes that many of us are already grappling with at home and in our school community:
The impact of social media on self-esteem and identity
The challenges young people face in building authentic relationships
The often difficult, but critical, role of parents in guiding their children through emotional and social turmoil
This isn’t a movie to watch casually—it’s one that invites reflection. It may even feel uncomfortable at times, as it portrays the vulnerability, confusion, and pain that can surface during adolescence. But therein lies its value. It reminds us just how much our children need steady, present adults who are willing to listen without judgment and love without conditions.
